Vinegar is a fantastically affordable and eco-friendly – not to mention, effective – product for tackling all manner of cleaning tasks around the home, and below are just 12 of the household items and surfaces it can be used to clean:
- Floors
Clean your floors and freshen them up when mopping by mixing a gallon of water with half a cup of white vinegar – not to be used on wood or natural stone flooring.
- Windows and mirrors
With a 2 to 1 combination of white vinegar and water, you can make an awesome glass cleaner.
- Refrigerators
Safer to use around food items than many other cleaning solutions, vinegar is great for keeping your fridge clean and when combined with baking soda, can neutralize odors, too.
- Dishwashers
With a cup of vinegar added to the bottom of your dishwasher, you can run it on a regular cycle to clean and deodorize it.
- Showers and tubs
Water, vinegar and a few drops of dish soap are great for eliminating soap scum and hard water stains in bathrooms – simply spray on, leave for 15 minutes and wipe away.
- Faucets and showerheads
Mineral deposits and hard water can clog up both faucets and showerheads, but by removing them and soaking them overnight in a tightly secured bag filled with vinegar, you can remedy the problem.
- Coffee makers and kettles
Effective as a descaling agent, vinegar and water can be added into a kettle or coffee maker directly, before boiling them and rinsing thoroughly.
- Counter tops
Because vinegar is safe to be used around food without contaminating it, you can spray a diluted mixture of vinegar and water onto any kitchen counter top to disinfect and clean it – not to be used on marble and granite.
- Cookware
Fill dirty pots with a half and half solution of vinegar and water, and bring it to boil on the stove for a few minutes. Allow to cool, and clean as usual.
- Cutting boards
Again, because vinegar is safe to be used around food, you can spray both sides of a cutting board with a mixture of vinegar and water to clean it, before washing it off and leaving to air dry.
- Ovens
Spray the surface of the cooktop with a water and vinegar combination, wait 10 minutes, then wipe down with warm water and a sponge or cloth.
- Laundry
Just by adding half a cup of white vinegar to your next load of laundry, you can help not just to preserve the colors of the items, but to brighten them too.
Isn’t vinegar incredible! With so many uses, and so many advantages, it’s easy to see why this product is a firm favorite of cleaners across the land.
