Bathrooms can quickly become dull looking, tired and grubby, especially if you have a large household and it’s continually in use. However, there are a few simple tips to get your bathroom shining again:
- Give your tiles a new lease of life
There’s no need to retile your bathroom to restore it to its’ former glory, instead, simply clean and recolor your grouting. Begin by deep cleaning the grouting; wear gloves and work in small 3 feet sections. Brush the cleaner onto the grout, leave it for 5 minutes, scrub it again and then rinse it off with a damp sponge. Then leave the grout to dry completely before following up with the application of a color that best complements the room. Coat the grout lines with colorant starting from the farthest corner and working your way in, ideally in small sections. The foam applicator should help you avoid bleeding too much color onto the tiles. Then, wipe the tiles clean with a damp sponge and continue until every piece of grout has been cleaned and colored.
- Invest in some shelving
Vanity shelves not only help a bathroom to look more attractive, but they are useful places to store items that may be cluttering up the room and making it look dirty or unorganized.
- Add a surface sheen
Updating your bathroom and getting it to sparkle again can be achieved by using contrasting surface sheens. These can be added inexpensively to your existing bathroom and are easy to keep clean and maintain.
- Choose appropriate lighting
If the lighting in your bathroom is harsh and bright, try swapping the bulbs for a lower wattage, and softer color. Bright lights are fine for applying make-up and close-up mirror work, but soft lights help to reflect you how others see you. Plus, soft lighting can hide myriad bathroom imperfections, too!
- Don’t neglect simple bathroom cleaning tasks
While there are tricks and tips for getting your bathroom to shine again, there can be no substitute for keeping it spotlessly clean, so try not to neglect basic cleaning tasks. A grubby toilet can reflect poorly on the entire bathroom, as can mildew and soap residue left in tubs and shower stalls. Regular cleaning will prevent you from having to devote too much time to the tasks and will keep your bathroom looking fresh and presentable.
Bathrooms can say a lot about the home owner and those who use it, so keeping it clean and looking shiny should be a priority if you want guests to be impressed when they visit. Of course, a clean bathroom is more hygienic, too, and the health of you and others who use the bathroom should be top of your list. To give your bathroom a total makeover from top to bottom, consider calling in the professionals either for a one-off cleaning session, or on a more regular basis.
