Most of us know that water alone isn’t enough to eliminate stubborn, kitchen grease, so what is? No kitchen can ever be completely clean when there are grease stains, so combating it is essential; with the following 5 tips, you can get your kitchen grease free in next to no time:
- Flour power
Grease stains are always best cleaned up as soon as they occur, so grab a bag of flour (any old flour will do) and simply sprinkle some all over the affected area. Miraculously (although it’s just science really, not an act of God!), the flour will absorb the grease and you can easily wipe it all away.
- Good old baking soda and water
Since baking soda is an alkali, it is perfect for helping to dissolve grease, and it doesn’t have a negative effect on the surface it’s being applied to, or your skin. Simply add 3 tablespoons of baking soda to a cup of water, mix it up and use it to help you scrub away light grease stains from any surface, or even pots and pans.
- Regular dish soap
If you’ve spilled grease on softer surfaces, such as clothing or linen, grab your bottle of dish soap and squirt it directly onto the stain. Leave it to sit there for up to half an hour before running the items through a cold wash. As dish soaps are among the toughest grease busting products available, they should be able to wash the grease and fat molecules away from the fabric.
- Salt and rubbing alcohol, an unusual but winning combination
For all those fabrics that can’t be popped into the wash, this solution should work wonders on grease stains. Combine 1-part salt with 4 parts rubbing alcohol and with a cloth, rub it onto the stain until it lifts away. Once the grease has been eliminated and the solution is dry, vacuum up the excess salt and take a clean, damp cloth to gently wipe away any leftover salt marks.
- The acid power of vinegar
The acid content of vinegar makes it great for cutting through grease that is especially stubborn, such as those that are encrusted on the stove, in the oven, or on baking dishes. Spray vinegar straight onto the stain and leave it to soak for around 5 minutes. Then, you should find the grease is much softer and easier to scrub away with a sponge. Vinegar works best when applied to hot grease, and while it isn’t quite as effective as an alkali solution, it’s still pretty helpful at making grease easier to clean up.
