9 Top Tips for Eliminating Dust for Good

Vaccum cleaning

It might be easier to get rid of dust for good than you realize, and with the following 9, simple tips, you can enjoy a dust-free home, all year round:

  1. Close your windows

Dust, pollen and all manner of other microscopic debris enters your home through the windows, and by keeping them closed as often as possible, you can keep dust to a minimum.

  1. Don’t forget to wash your pillows

Washing your pillows at least 3 times a year can help keep dust mites at bay and minimize allergens and other dusty irritants.

  1. Frequently mop your hard floors

Vacuuming your hard floors before mopping them can ensure that no dust particle gets left behind, and the more often you can do this, the better for minimizing dust in your home.

  1. Beat your rugs

Homemakers have been doing this for centuries, and probably because it works. Take your rugs outside and give them a shake, and if possible, drape them over a railing and beat them with a broom or rug beater; you’ll be amazed and quite probably disgusted by what comes off of them!

  1. Wash drapes and blinds

Blinds and drapes can collect a lot of dust, even if you don’t have your windows open often, and washing them regularly is recommended to keep them smelling fresh and free from dust. Blinds can easily be cleaned with a damp microfiber cloth.

  1. Use a welcome mat

This is a simple but highly effective way to stop dust at the door, and you can even have your pets wipe their paws on it before entering! One outside the door and one inside, will work the best.

  1. Enforce a ‘no shoes’ rule

Have visitors wipe their shoes before they enter your home, and then request that they remove them to go one step further and prevent any outside dust and dirt from coming into your home. A shoe rack placed next to the door may be a subtle enough hint if you feel embarrassed about asking them to remove their footwear!

  1. Buy an air purifier

Air purifiers are by far the best way of trapping floating dust particles before they have a chance to settle on any surfaces, floors or furniture, but you should try to purchase one with a HEPA filter, which can remove almost 100% of dust, pollen, mold, bacteria and airborne particles with a size of 0.3 microns.

  1. Don’t dance on your ceiling, clean it!

Even ceilings can be dust traps, and cleaning them at least every few months will help stop particles from falling down onto the room below. With a ladder and the soft brush attachment on your vacuum, you should be able to get the job done, but for some cleaning chores like this that are a little more difficult, can be assigned to your cleaner.

Having a professional cleaner help you eliminate dust is even easier than following the above steps, and with plenty of reputable companies out there, keeping your home free from dust, all year round, has never been easier.
