The more cleaning and tidying tasks you can complete each day, the easier your house will be to clean in the long run, and the better you and the other inhabitants of your home will feel. These tasks don’t have to take long or even involve much effort, but you’ll be surprised what a difference they can make:
- Put coats and jackets where they belong:
When you walk through the door after a hard day at work, it can be tempting to simply throw your coat or jacket over the nearest chair, banister or even onto the floor. However, the small act of hanging these things where they really belong, such as on a hook or in a closet, can instantly make your home look less chaotic and untidy.
- Give surfaces a quick wipe over:
Countertops in kitchens and bathrooms can quickly become grubby if not cleaned daily, and can begin to look unsightly, not to mention the germs and bacteria they may be harbouring. For a time saving option, leave a tub of throwaway sanitizing wipes in your kitchen and bathroom, and you’ll soon get into a routine of wiping them more often when the tools are readily at your disposal.
- Tidy up shoes:
In much the same way that it can be tempting to take off our outer layers of clothing and dump them just inside the front door as soon as we get in, kicking off our shoes and leaving them where they land, is another bad habit that can make your home look unsightly. Simply place a rack just inside the front door and you and other members of the household will be encouraged to put them tidily away.
- Wash dirty dishes after every meal:
For most of us, washing the dishes, pots and pans is a real chore, but if you have a dishwasher, there is really no excuse for leaving dirty dishes in the sink or on counters. Not only can they attract bugs and bacteria when they are left lying around dirty, but they will soon begin to smell and give a bad impression of your standards of cleanliness to visitors.
- Hang up towels after use:
Not only do wet towels look messy when left lying on the floor or furniture, but they won’t dry out properly in between uses and will soon begin to smell musty and damp. If you don’t have enough places to hang towels, you can always strategically place a few hooks in your bathroom or bedrooms, making it far easier to hang towels properly.
- Empty the trash regularly:
Stuffing trash into the can until it begins to overflow is a nasty habit, and a lazy one! Smelly trash is going to be off putting for visitors to your home, and who knows what kind of bugs and rodents it may soon begin to attract. When you can no longer close the lid, empty the trash can!
- Make the bed:
This is such a quick and simple task yet so many of us cannot be bothered to do it each morning. Whether nobody else is likely to enter your bedroom but you, an unmade bed will still make your home feel untidy and climbing into a messy bed after a hard day is not as satisfying as getting into a tidily made bed, that’s for sure.
These simple and quick daily cleaning tasks will make a big difference to how tidy and clean your home looks and feels, and with minimal effort, you can help to keep your home looking more inviting and welcoming for others, as well as for yourself.
