Spring has well and truly sprung and it’s time to dig out the dusters and unveil the vacuum cleaner! Don an old set of clothes, gather together your cleaning materials and get ready to clean with these top tips for spring cleaning:
- Get up with the morning chorus
If you’re going to clean your home properly, you need to start early and get going before you lose your momentum. A full clean may mean removing some furniture and other items, so the earlier you get up and do this, the sooner you can have everything back in place again. Rugs should ideally be removed, too, so that you thoroughly clean the floors.
- Split the chores
Try to formulate a plan so that you can strategically tackle the entire house without getting overwhelmed or being forced to go and back clean areas that you’ve already cleaned. Split the work into sections, such as ground floor, first floor, bathrooms and kitchen. Start at the top of your home, or at the back if you occupy one single floor, and work your way down or to the front.
- Is there anything you can sell, store or dispose of?
Before you start cleaning, go through your entire home and see if there any items that you no longer need or want, and work out what you want to do with them. The less items, the less clutter and the less items to dust or clean.
- Be realistic about what you can achieve
Putting too much pressure on yourself to clean every room in one day, will only set you up to fail and you’ll feel disappointed when you don’t manage to get it all done. Be realistic about what you can achieve in the time that you’ve given yourself, and if you need more time to complete the entire home, consider splitting the chores over two days.
- Preparation is vital for a thorough, effective spring clean
Before setting about cleaning your home, make sure that you have all the cleaning materials that you need and the time to do it in. Waking up one day and deciding to spring clean may work for some people, but for most, that usually results in haphazard and ineffective cleaning. If there are other members of your household who might be able to help, inform them of your strategy and make sure that your chores don’t overlap to ensure the most effective use of each other’s time.
If spring cleaning your home seems like a mammoth task that you don’t think you can achieve without professional help, then why not use the services of a cleaning company who can get your home spick and span in time for spring or any other season, for that matter!
