Now, more than ever, you want your home to be smelling as fresh as possible. With pets and people staying inside more than ever before, your home can quickly play host to a wide range of unpleasant odours, but thankfully, eliminating them is easy, and here are some tips:

  • Take out the trash

Ensure that garbage cans are emptied and sanitized regularly, this will encourage sweeter smells to take ownership of your home.

  • Clean your refrigerator

The smell from old, stale or rotten food items can quickly permeate your entire home, even if they’re contained within your refrigerator, so keep it clean and empty it of any food items that have become waste.

  • Use baking soda on your carpets and rugs

There’s nothing worse than the stench from a smelly carpet or rug, but if you sprinkle baking soda mixed with your favourite essential oil over the surface before vacuuming, you can help lift away stubborn aroma’s. For best results, leave the soda and oil combination on the carpet overnight

  • Let fresh air in

Open your windows if weather permits and let the fresh air in and the stale air out.

  • Buy an air purifier

These are fantastic for improving the quality of air in your home and for helping eliminate dust and pollen.

  • Deodorize your dog!

Pets can be smelly, but with this natural, harmless deodorizer, you can encourage them to smell better, along with the rest of your home. Simply combine 2 tablespoons of baking soda with 2 cups of water and around 10 drops of pet-safe essential oil in a spray bottle, and spray your dog along with their bedding and toys etc.

  • Soak smelly towels

If your towels have become smelly even after washing, try soaking them overnight in hot water with a cup and a half of white vinegar, and then wash them as you usually would. You should find that the musty, mildew scent has disappeared.

  • Get your shoes smelling fresh again

While there are store-bought sprays and powders that can help eliminate odours in footwear, if you have room in your freezer, you can try popping the shoes in a bag and then popping them into the freezer overnight. Some shoes can tolerate being washed, too, but use your common sense with this tip!

  • Clean your drains

Smelly drains can really pong, so clean them as often as necessary with a store-bought solution to help prevent the smell from permeating your home.

It can be tricky to keep your home smelling fresh and clean, especially under the current circumstances, but these quick and simple tips should help.
