Every home will have dust, it’s impossible to eradicate it completely, but there are some cheap and simple tips you can follow to ensure that it doesn’t dominate your home:
Use a baby wipe to clean your laptop keyboard:
Because you don’t want to use water on your laptop, a baby wipe has just enough moisture without being wet, and can help pick up dust and debris from laptops, remote controls and cell phones for example. Just make sure devices are switched off first.
Wear gloves when cleaning:
Pop a pair of fabric gloves on when cleaning and use them to wipe more delicate, dust prone items such as glass lights, lamps, and decorative items.
Use a soft-bristled brush:
For harder to reach areas, use a selection of different sized, soft-bristled brushes to sweep away dust.
Sock it to your blinds!
Blinds can be notoriously tricky to keep clean, but by popping an old sock on your hand, you can simply run your fingers over the blinds to remove any dust.
Always dust from the top:
It’s a simple tip, but one that is frequently forgotten. Clean from the top and work your way down so that you don’t have to waste time re-dusting what’s fallen down from above, when you reach the bottom.
De-clutter:
How much or how little, you choose to de-clutter your home, is of course, up to you, but the less clutter there is, the less items there are for dust to settle on. If you have some decorative items that you simply can’t part with, try to keep them in display cabinets so that they don’t become dust-catchers.
Don’t neglect your curtains:
These can quickly become real dust magnets, and every time you open, close or even move them an inch or two, hundreds of dust particles will become dislodged. To avoid this, clean them at least once every six months (either professionally or in your machine if they’ll fit) and vacuum them fortnightly with a clean attachment.
Take on a cleaner:
This is the easiest and most efficient, time and stress saving way to help eliminate dust, and if you have a cleaner come in regularly enough, dust can become a thing of the past.
Don’t keep your windows open all the time:
While none of us want to live in a hermetically sealed environment, the more you open your windows, and for longer, the more dust will accumulate. Open them by all means, but try not to leave them open for hours on end.
Clean your houseplants:
Plants are fantastic for helping to purify the air in your home, but if their leaves are clogged up with dust, they won’t be able to perform their role. Clean them with water regularly, and they’ll be able to carry on doing their important work.
Dust not only looks unsightly, but it can damage your health, too. So, follow the above tips to help say goodbye to dominating dust, and say hello to a cleaner, fresher, healthier home!
