Bathrooms are busy rooms and as such, can get grubby very quickly. Cleaning them can be a bore, but it’s important to keep them clean for hygiene purposes, and with the following 9 tips, you should be able to keep it cleaner for longer:
- Keep your shower dry
Of course, the shower will get wet while in use, but if you wipe it down and dry it off as best you can each time, it will help prevent mildew stains from developing and bacteria from growing. The exhaust fan can also help eliminate excess moisture, along with opening a window while showering, and then leaving the shower door open after. If your shower has a curtain, stretch it out to help it dry after each use and wash it at least every couple of months.
- Use a water repellent
You may not realize such a product exists, but a water repellent, when coated on the shower walls and doors, can help water, minerals and soap residue run off after a shower.
- Swap soap dishes for dispensers
While many people like to use traditional bars of soap to wash their hands with, these often hold onto bacteria, as does the dish you keep it in. Swap it for a liquid soap dispenser and help keep your sink area dry and clean.
- Stash items neatly away
Nothing screams of dirt and untidiness like cosmetics and other bathroom items scattered around a bathroom, and they make it difficult when it comes to cleaning it, too. Try to keep these items inside a vanity cupboard or on a shelf, and your bathroom will instantly look cleaner and tidier.
- Hang towels up to dry
The more places you can hang towels up to dry, the better; damp towels will quickly begin to smell and encourage bacteria to breed.
- Use cleaning products that are grime resistant
Certain products available on the market today help sinks, toilets, tub, showers and tiles to stay clean for longer, by resisting stains. Do some research and test out a few to find the one that’s the most effective.
- Keep cleaning wipes in a convenient place
If you place a packet of disinfectant bathroom wipes in the bathroom where it can be easily reached, you and other members of the household will be more inclined to use them to clean up stains as soon as they occur, such as splatter from toothpaste or water marks.
- Keep used dryer sheets in a convenient place, too
These are great for picking up dust and hair bunnies from the floor of the bathroom, and are a convenient solution that doesn’t involve getting the vacuum cleaner out.
- Banish shower curtain gunk and grime
If you have a vinyl shower curtain, simply spray the bottom of it with a disinfecting solution (diluted bleach is perfect) to help prevent soap scum and grime from building up on it. Rinse it off before using the shower, and you should help keep your shower curtain cleaner, for longer.
If your bathroom is constantly dirty and you don’t have time to clean it as often as you’d like, simply hire a professional cleaning company and have them blitz it regularly for you.
