The Basics of a Clean Bathroom

Mirror cleaning

Even if your home doesn’t have multiple occupants, it will still need to be cleaned regularly to keep it sanitary and hygienic, and the longer you leave your bathroom uncleaned, the bigger the task will be.

Regular bathroom cleaning will keep it cleaner for longer, and if you get any unexpected visitors or guests, you won’t need to rush around frantically trying to get it looking and smelling fresh! Here are the basics of bathroom cleaning:

Clean the shower, tub, sinks and toilet

These areas of your bathroom benefit from regular cleaning, and fortunately, there are many products on the market today that make it easy for you. Spray each item liberally (or as per the manufacturers instructions), leave it for the recommended period of time and simply wipe or scrub it away.

White vinegar is a fantastic product for getting shower stalls sparkling clean, and if you purchase a squeegee, you can wipe the glass or tiles down quickly after each use. This will help to prevent watermarks and soap scum from building up and causing a bigger problem further down the line.

Bleach works wonderfully for getting your toilet and sink hygienically clean, but if you don’t like the smell, you could use a different product or rub a lemon half over the sink and toilet after cleaning.

Cleaning tiles and grout effectively

Grubby tiles and stained grout can really let a bathroom down, but if you buy a product designed to eliminate mold and mildew, and let it penetrate the grout before you scrub it off with a stiff-bristled scrubbing brush, you can get the job done more effectively, and save yourself some time.

Getting rid of soap scum

Take a dryer sheet, wet it and scrub it over the shower glass in a circular motion. You’ll notice a milky white foam forming on the surface, and once you’ve wiped that away with water and a squeegee, paper towels or a microfiber cloth, you’ll be left with spotlessly clean glass shower doors.

Managing hair

Use your vacuum to pick up any stray hairs on the floor and other surfaces, and a damp cloth or paper towels to collect any that have gathered in the sink or around the toilet bowl. Make sure this is done thoroughly before you apply any cleaning solutions to your bathroom.

Keeping your bathroom floors clean

Staying on top of dust, hairs and other small particles is the quickest way to keep your floors looking clean for longer, and a small handheld vacuum stored nearby would make this task even easier.

Bathroom cleaning isn’t everyone’s idea of fun – if it’s anyone’s at all! – so to keep it clean while you focus on other, more enjoyable or necessary things, hire a cleaner to come in and freshen it up as often as needed.
