Housework is a necessity, but something that often gets diverted to the bottom of our ever-growing to-do lists. Keeping a clean home is time consuming, and many modern but houseproud Americans, simply can’t find the time to squeeze it into their busy schedules. However, by tackling one room at a time and spending no longer than an hour doing it, it’s possible to get your entire home clean every week, and keep it that way for longer.
Here are a few tips for tackling your kitchen, bathroom and living room:
Kitchen cleaning tips
You might find that spending 10 minutes a day cleaning your kitchen is more productive than dedicating an hour to it once a week. However you decide to tackle it, these are some great tips for getting it done fast, and keeping it clean for longer:
- Clean up spillages right away – most spillages are easier to clean up as soon as they happen; if left for any time, they become harder to remove and will make your kitchen smell dirty, not to mention attract bugs and pests and eventually become a potential health hazard.
- Storage is key – keeping surfaces and worktops free of clutter makes life easier all round; there are less items to clean/dust and if you do make a mess, you don’t have to move lots of items in the process. Keep as many things inside your pantry and cabinets as possible, and limit appliances left out.
- Have a cleaning caddy – keeping a small bucket or caddy full of essential cleaning items that you can grab and use as and when you need to, will make cleaning a lot quicker.
- Empty the trash regularly – nothing makes a kitchen smell dirtier than rotting or overflowing trash. Take the trash out before it fills the can, and wipe down any spillages inside the can as necessary.
Living room cleaning tips
Easier and quicker to clean than the kitchen, keeping your living room clean and tidy shouldn’t be too tricky:
- Have a place for everything – make sure that items taken out and not always used daily, have a place to go to, this avoids clutter and dust gathering issues.
- Put things back where they belong – having a place for clutter is great, but it’s not much use if things aren’t put back where they belong after every use. Have every member of the household try to follow this rule, too.
- Clean up messes, right away – as with any room in the house, make sure that if someone does make a mess, that they clean it up right away.
- Vacuum frequently – this doesn’t take long but can make the room look and feel cleaner in an instant.
Bathroom cleaning tips
Because they’re damp a lot of the time, bathrooms can quickly get dirty and smelly, so follow these tips to keep it cleaner, for longer:
- Store toiletries away – less clutter means less items to dust/wipe down
- Clean sinks/faucets/tub/toilet often – a quick wipe down of everything in your bathroom prevents you from having to spend hours scrubbing and drowning in bleach in one go.
If daily cleaning isn’t your thing, or you’re too busy even to do that, why not make life easier and your home cleaner, by hiring a cleaning service?
