9 Tips to Get Your Home Clean After the Holidays

The period after the holidays can be a depressing time for many, and not least because of all the decorations that have to be taken down, the tree that has to be gotten rid of or dismantled, and the cleaning of the entire home that needs to be done after visitors and excited kids have taken their toll!

Post festive cleaning isn’t fun by anyone standards, but there are some ways to make the process a little less daunting:

  1. By making sure that you store your festive decorations, tree and lights in the same place every year, you can reduce the time spent searching for them, and be much more organized. With a place for everything, tidying away becomes much quicker.
  2. Put everything in storage containers with lids to preserve them and prevent them from getting dusty.
  3. Donate unwanted gifts before they become clutter!
  4. Bring in the professionals! The simplest way of taking the stress and inconvenience out of post festive cleaning, is by hiring a cleaning service to come in and get the place spotlessly clean and tidy in less than a day.
  5. Wrap your festive lights around the empty tubes from wrapping paper or kitchen paper before storing them, to prevent them from tangling and getting all knotted up. Begin by wrapping the cord around the roll – at the opposite end to the plug – and then pop the plug into the rolls opening.
  1. Keep hold of any large bags or boxes that you accumulated over the festive period to use for storage in case you run out of containers with lids.
  2. Until you can find appropriate homes for all of the Christmas gifts you and your family have accrued, store them away in a separate room to make the clean-up operation easier.
  1. Try to do as much deep cleaning as you can before the new year festivities get into full swing, and as is often the case, there is at least a day or two in between Christmas and New Year’s Eve, when things quieten down and you can tackle a few tasks without too many interruptions. This will prevent you from entering a new year with a dirty home and a long list of cleaning chores to be completed, too!
  1. Where possible, get the whole family involved. While your kids may not want to help, particularly following the excitement of Christmas and with all their new toys and gadgets to play with, enlisting them will make your home cleaner, quicker, and if each person takes on a task or two, you’ll have a spotless home in next to no time.

Post festive cleaning doesn’t have to be a depressing prospect, especially if you hire a cleaning service! And now that we’re well and truly into the new year, why not make having a cleaner home your new year’s resolution, and let a professional cleaning service help you achieve your goal.
