2 Methods to Get Your Ceiling Fans Spotlessly Clean

Ceiling fans are a fantastic addition to most homes; helping to circulate the air and keep us cool during the hot, summer months. However, ceiling fans typically don’t see a lot of use during the colder months, and it’s inevitable that dust will have built up on them over the months. As such, it’s important to try and get them as clean as possible before you start using them again, otherwise you’ll send dust and other debris flying all over the home.

To help you get your ceiling fans clean when the warner weather arrives, here are 2 effective methods for you to choose from:

Method one

You’ll need a pillowcase, a cleaning solution and a cloth. Then:

  • Turn the fan off
  • Slide the pillowcase over the fans’ blades and hold it firmly around it to contain any dust and debris
  • With your hands, press the fabric of the pillowcase up against the side of the blade, removing the dust and allowing it to fall into the pillowcase.
  • If necessary, you might want to use a cleaning product and a cloth to wipe the blade down and prevent further dust from accumulating on it
  • Be careful not to open the pillowcase containing the dust until you’re outside, or holding it over the sink, for example.

Method two

You’ll need a vacuum cleaner (with attachments), a cleaning solution, cloths and a large sheet or towel. Then:

  • Position the large sheet or towel underneath the ceiling fan to catch any dust and debris that might be dislodged during cleaning.
  • Using a step ladder (and wearing glasses to prevent dust from getting in your eyes), and holding your vacuum cleaner with the brush attachment in one hand, vacuum off as much dust as you can. Take care not to fall from the ladder, and if possible, have someone standing at its base to keep it from wobbling or moving.
  • For any remaining dust or debris, use a damp cloth and your favorite cleaning solution to wipe the blades down.

How often should you clean your ceiling fans?

To be honest, if you can clean them every month or so, you’ll prevent dust and other debris from having a chance to build up on them. Otherwise, you can simply clean them seasonally.

Alternatively, try hiring a cleaning company to get the job done for you. They’ll have all the techniques and tools to get your ceiling fans spotlessly clean, while minimizing the amount of dust that gets spread around the room.

For all jobs like this that aren’t a whole lot of fun, you’re much better off assigning them to a cleaning company. Let them get sweaty and grubby, while you sit back and enjoy the cooling air from your spotlessly clean ceiling fans!
