It doesn’t have to be hard to keep your home clean, and neither should it be.
While you can hire a cleaning service for those days when you can’t face cleaning, or if your home has gone past a quick spruce up and needs a deeper clean, there are still a few little things you can do yourself, to keep your home clean and tidy.
No matter how busy you are, or how much you hate cleaning, these simple, small tips can help you keep the place shipshape and in tip top condition, most of the time (because all of the time is a little too much to expect!):
- Declutter for a few minutes every day
One of the biggest barriers to maintaining a clean home, is clutter. So, if you can keep clutter to a minimum, you should find it easier to keep your home clean. Try to spend a few minutes every day putting things back in their rightful place, and you can prevent huge pile-ups of clutter that take longer to deal with, and create obstructions when you’re trying to clean.
- Deal with the aftermath of meals, immediately
Whether you wash your dishes manually, or use a dishwasher, deal them with promptly after every meal or snack, along with wiping down the stovetop and any other dirty surfaces, and your kitchen will instantly look and feel cleaner.
- Put doormats in place
A doormat at every entrance can go a long way towards stopping dirt, dust and allergens from being tracked through your home. And enforce a shoes-off-at-the-door policy for added efficacy!
- Wipe frequently touched surfaces every day
It only takes a few minutes to wipe down areas such as light switches and door handles that are touched regularly, but this can help reduce the spread of bacteria significantly, and keep everyone in your household healthier.
- Vacuum a little every day
By vacuuming one section of your home every day, you can keep on top of dirt and dust, and prevent yourself from having to spend hours going up, down and around with the vacuum in your spare time.
- Don’t let the bathroom get out of control
Bathrooms can get really messy, really quickly, but usually, a quick wipe around and tidy up every day, can stop it from becoming too grubby and smelly. You can also use overnight cleaning solutions in the toilet to minimize scrubbing during your deep bathroom clean (which you could just as easily have a cleaning company do).
- Make your bed
An unmade bed makes any bedroom look untidy, so take the time to make it when you get out of it, and you’ll immediately appreciate the difference.
- Use storage solutions
It’s hard to tackle clutter concerns if you’ve not got enough places to keep things. Have plenty of storage options around your home, and encourage other members of the household to put things away when they’ve finished with them.
- Groom pets regularly
Pet hair and pet smells are the bane of many a household, but regular grooming and cleaning of bedding can help keep on top of this, and prevent your pets from spoiling your nice clean home.
By following these simple little tips, you can keep your home clean and tidy while you wait for the professionals to come in and really transform the place!
