Cleaning Routines – friend or foe?

Structured Cleaning Plan

Routines can be dull, especially for those of us who crave a little excitement in our lives, and who hate doing the same thing on the same day, for the foreseeable future. But when it comes to cleaning, excitement kind of goes out of the window, and routine can just make life easier, whether you’re a fan of cleaning or not.

Setting up cleaning routines for you and/or other members of your household, is simply the quickest and simplest way of making sure that everything gets cleaned as often as it needs to, and that you don’t leave rooms or items dirty for weeks on end. This can be tempting, especially if you have a busy schedule or a serious aversion to cleaning, but it will not benefit you in the long run.

How do you go about creating a cleaning routine?

There are many ways and methods of cleaning your home, of course, and everyone will have their own ways of doing things. For some inspiration on how best to create a cleaning routine for your home, look at the suggestions below:

  • Creating a routine for daily chores

One of the simplest ways of getting all your cleaning chores completed in a manageable way, is to complete one each day. For example, Mondays could be for catching up on laundry, while Tuesdays see you cleaning the bathroom, Wednesdays are when you vacuum each room etc

  • Creating zones for cleaning

In focusing on one area or zone of your home each day, you can gradually get the entire place clean in time for the weekend, which could become a ‘no clean’ period! Mondays could see you focusing on cleaning the living room or lounge, followed by the kitchen on Tuesdays and so on. Dividing your home into cleaning zones is also a great way of getting your kids involved; allocate them a zone and send them off to clean it…followed by a reward for its successful completion, of course!

  • Daily chores and zone cleaning combo

Many people find that combining the two routines above, is one of the best ways of getting every area clean, and regularly. You can update and alter the routines as you need to, and flexibility is the key to staying on top of things. If your vacuum cleaner breaks down on your vacuuming day, then swap it for a day when you’ve got it repaired or replaced it, and do the same for any other issues that might occur. If you’re feeling unwell, delegate the cleaning or stick to lighter duties such as dusting, but unless you’re stuck in bed, it isn’t advisable to give up on the cleaning altogether, otherwise it will be too overwhelming once you’re well again.

Many folks choose to do their laundry daily, and this is recommendable if you have a larger household, as it enables you to keep on top of it better and not have to start turning your dirty clothes inside out!

Cleaning routines can certainly be your friend, especially if you enjoy having a clean home, and find it stressful when things begin to get out of control, but which routine you choose will be important in how well it works for you. However, if all this talk of routines and zones is already making you feel dull and uninspired, simply call in the professionals and have them take care of all the cleaning for you…job done
