Could Your Allergies Be Caused By Dust?

Cleaning Dust

If you’re experiencing a frequent runny nose, and cold-like symptoms such as sneezing and runny or itchy eyes, then you may have a dust allergy. Unfortunately, if you do, then you’re allergic to almost every allergen in the atmosphere, which can include dust mites, dust particles, pollen and mold to name but a few. However, there are some things that you can do within your home to minimize your allergies and protect as many members of your household from the symptoms as possible:

Treat your bedding and furniture:

Keeping all items of furniture, bedding and carpeting as clean as possible will go a long way towards reducing the symptoms of dust allergies. Change your bedsheets at least once a month and try to dry pillows and mattresses in the sun wherever possible.

Keep your entire home as clean as possible:

Mold can quickly build up in your home and aggravate allergies no end. Try to keep your home cool and well ventilated to prevent mold from building up in areas that are often damp, such as the bathroom, and if you do spot a patch of damp or mold, clean it and try to address the underlying cause. A clean home is not one that is covered in a thick layer of dust, and for an allergy free time at home, clean it often! If you struggle to keep it free from dust and mold, you could try using the services of a professional cleaning company.

Keep your pets clean, too:

Dander can be a huge irritator for those who suffer from allergies, and so wherever possible, try to designate certain areas of your home just to your pets, so that they’re not leaving their allergens all over the place. If you can’t resist having your pets with you wherever you are in the home, then try to keep them clean and groomed.

De-clutter your home:

Ornaments, trinkets and other eye-catching items left out on display are often viewed as merely dust collectors, and you may have to reassess their importance in your home if your allergies are bothering you. Put things away in cupboards and closed compartments and if you must leave some items out on display, the dust them regularly.

Cleaning is perhaps one of the cheapest and most effective ways of ensuring that dust mites don’t take over your home and aggravate your allergies. If you have small children or elderly relatives in your home, then eliminating dust is even more important for those frailer members of your household. For a home that is dust free all year round, simply employ a cleaner from a professional company and you’ll probably wonder why you didn’t do so years ago!
