Could Your Dirty Oven Be Causing You Harm?

Ovens in the average household go through a lot, and while they often help us cook delicious foods, they also get pretty dirty.

Cleaning an oven that has gotten a lot of use over the months and years, can be a time consuming job, particularly when there is stubborn stuck-on food debris to contend with, and all manner of crusty spillages to try and eradicate. In fact, even if you clean your oven every month, depending on the use it gets, this can still be a challenge.

Many people choose to hand the oven-cleaning reins over to professional cleaning companies, and why not? But whether you clean your oven yourself, or pay someone else to do it for you, it’s a task that shouldn’t be neglected. Why? Dirty ovens can pose significant health risks, and perhaps even more worryingly, could put your home at risk, too.

Let’s take a closer look at what a dirty oven could be doing to you and your home:

Effecting the taste of your food

Carbon-based fumes can occur in an oven that has burnt food debris inside it, and which hasn’t been cleaned in a long time. Not only can these fumes have a negative impact on the taste of food cooked in the oven, but they could have an impact on your health, too.

In addition, an oven that’s caked in old food will find it harder to perform as it should, meaning that certain foods might not cook properly in the normal time. If you’re not aware of this, you could be undercooking food and exposing yourself to the risk of bacterial infections.

Releasing dirty fumes

The smoke produced by a dirty oven may contain harmful gases, such as Sulphur Dioxide, Nitrogen Oxide, and Carbon Monoxide, any one of which can be dangerous to humans.

Dirty ovens also release pollutants such as methane and carbon, contributing to global warming and climate change, and spoiling the air quality in your home.

Creating a safety hazard

Housefires are most people’s worst nightmare, and while not all such fires end in tragedy, most do result in the destruction of personal belongings and items of value, at the very least. While you might think your dirty oven to be an eyesore and a bit of an embarrassment, you might be shocked to know that it could be the cause of a fire within your home.

Smelling bad

While a smelly oven isn’t dangerous, it’s not something most people want inside their home. Fail to keep your oven clean, however, and it could soon be emitting some less than pleasant aromas, tainting the air and causing a stink.

Attracting pests

What loves to feed off of leftover food and tasty debris? Cockroaches and rodents, to name but a few! While you can take measures to try and keep your home pest-free, such as by putting down poison or traps, why not tackle the cause of the problem, which if you haven’t cleaned it in months (or even years), could well be your oven!

Don’t let your dirty oven cause you harm that could so easily have been prevented.

If you don’t want to clean your oven yourself, or haven’t got the time or willpower, simply call in a professional home cleaning service, and ask them to do it for you. Better yet, have them do it on a regular basis so that dirt and spillages never become a problem in your oven, with a regular cleaning service.
