Could Your Kids School Items Be Contaminated?

Kids Cleaning FL

While your kids are at school, there are ample opportunities for them to pick up germs and bring them home with them, and in light of the ongoing COVID-19 health pandemic, more and more focus has shifted to disinfecting potentially contaminated items.

It may be a bit of a bore, and time consuming, but cleaning and disinfecting the following of your kids school items regularly, could help keep you and the rest of your family, safe from potentially harmful germs and bacteria:

Electronic devices

iPads, cell phones, tablets, computers and other handheld electronic devices can easily play host to all manner of bacteria, and wiping them down at the end of each day with an appropriate cleaning solution, is strongly advised. You can also purchase protective cases to make keeping them clean, even easier.

Backpacks

These can get pretty grubby, especially when you think of where they go and how often they end up on the floor. While washing them every day is not an option for most busy households, you can leave them in the car or garage at the end of each school day, instead. Your kids will need to learn to take everything out from inside the backpack to bring inside, but it will soon become a routine.

If possible, wash in the machine, or thoroughly clean out your kids backpacks at least once a week.

School supplies

Your kids will almost certainly be bringing books and other supplies home with them, so wherever possible, wipe these items down with a disinfectant before use. If you’re going to be helping them with their homework and handling the items, this becomes especially important. Hand washing after touching the items should be carried out, too, and if you and your family haven’t yet got into the habit of regular hand washing, consider yourself grounded!

School clothes and shoes

Getting kids out of their uniforms before they spend too much time inside the home is important, too. Have them take their school clothes off, grab a quick shower and change into whatever it is that they wear around the home. This helps to ensure that any germs that may be on your kids and/or their clothes, doesn’t get transmitted all around the home and contaminate other items, or family members.

Lunch boxes

Lunchboxes are handled pretty extensively, albeit only once or twice during the school day, and should be wiped down thoroughly, washed or placed in the dishwasher at the end of every day. Deep clean them at least once a week, and if they’re made of fabric, you may even be able to throw them in the laundry.

There’s no need to panic that your kids are going to contaminate your home and everyone in it, but it does pay to be mindful of the risks, and take the necessary precautions. Having a professional cleaning service come in and keep your home hygienically clean every day, can be extremely beneficial, too.
