Deep Cleaning Guidance For A Hygienic Bathroom

Aside from the kitchen, the bathroom is the one other space in the home that should always be hygienically clean, and even if you do your best to keep it that way most of the time, a periodic deep clean is usually necessary.

If you don’t use the services of a professional cleaning company, you’ll need to tackle the deep cleaning of your bathroom, yourself.

Here’s what you need to do:

Get your cleaning supplies up together

From rubber gloves and a microfiber duster, to glass cleaner, white vinegar and toilet bowl cleaners, gathering your supplies up before you start, can help motivate you and prevent time lost to searching for the things you need.

Declutter

Remove all clutter from the room so that you can easily access all areas for cleaning.

Dust and vacuum

Dust every surface with a microfiber cloth, before vacuuming, taking care to get into every corner.

Start by cleaning the shower and tub

To effectively eliminate soap scum and mildew from your shower and tub, you should follow the steps below:

  • Remove showerhead and soak in white vinegar and water, preferably overnight. Scrub with an old toothbrush.
  • Spray shower walls and tub with your favorite all-purpose cleaner, or white vinegar and water solution. Leave for a few minutes before scrubbing and rinsing with warm water.
  • Make a grout-cleaning paste from water and baking soda combined, and once applied, scrub over the grout with an old toothbrush and rinse.
  • Where possible, wash shower curtains in the machine (add a couple of towels to stop it creasing), or soak in the tub for an hour or so with white vinegar. Use your favorite glass cleaner for the shower stall door, or white vinegar and water solution.

Move on to the toilet

To prevent stains and odors, regularly apply a cleaning solution to the toilet bowl, and leave for a few minutes before flushing to rinse. A brush will be needed to reach under the rim. Use your favorite cleaning solution for the toilet’s exterior and seat.

Sanitize sinks and countertops

From soap and toothpaste to water stains, sinks and countertops should be cleaned at least once a week to keep them in a hygienic condition, and involve every surface being wiped down with an anti-bacterial solution. Pay close attention to all cracks, hinges, corners and edges.

Bathroom mirrors can be cleaned with your favorite solution, or a white vinegar and water combination.

Get the floors spotlessly clean

Dust, nail clippings, hair and plenty of other general grime can quickly accumulate on the floor of your bathroom, and to eliminate it, you should vacuum thoroughly (using attachments to get into all of the corners), before mopping with your favourite cleaning product.

Ensure high-touch areas are dirt-free

Door handles, light switches and towel racks are areas in the bathroom that are commonly neglected, and yet cleaning them is quick and easy, especially if you do it regularly. Use disinfectant or the trusted white vinegar and water combo, to get every high-touch area hygienically clean.

Put everything back in its place

Replace the items you took out before cleaning, and if any items can be stored away, or gotten rid of, be sure to do this so that your next clean is even quicker and easier.

Regular cleaning is the best way to keep your bathroom hygienically clean at all times, and by hiring a bi-weekly cleaning service, you can guarantee the cleanliness of the space, for longer. If your bathroom is need of a deep clean and you don’t have the time or inclination to do it yourself, simply hire a local cleaning service for a one-off clean – and who knows, you might love the results so much you decide to hire them on a more regular basis!
