- 1/2 lemon
- 1 tablespoon corn starch
- ½ cup white vinegar
- ½ cup of water
- an empty bottle with a spray top
- crumpled newspaper
Believe it or not, this simple and inexpensive formula will give you sparkling and streak free windows, with minimal effort. Simply prepare your ingredients and whisk them all together so that the corn starch doesn’t make your solution lumpy, then pour the mixture into an empty bottle with a spray top. Add ½ cup of water and give it a shake for good measure.
Some people use vinegar or lemon alone to clean their windows, and this can have a good effect but adding the corn starch to this preparation is the secret and magic ingredient, and the lemon will take away the harshness of the scent of vinegar.
Applying the solution to your grimy windows:
Once you’ve prepared your diamond bright cleaning solution, simply grab a few pages of a newspaper and crumple them up. Newspaper is a tried and tested material for window cleaning and has been proven not to leave flecks of paper behind in the way that using kitchen paper, or a cotton rag might. It also minimises the smearing effect, and of course you can simply reuse old newspapers.
Give your bottle containing the solution a quick shake and then spray liberally over the window. To wipe off the solution and rid your windows of all grime, rub the newspaper all over the window using a circular motion.
