Is Your Home Really As Clean As You Think It Is?

Is your Home really clean

Some of us thoroughly enjoy cleaning our homes, while others simply detest it. Some of us see a grimy bathroom and get a little excited at the prospect of attacking the dirt and making it gleam, while others choose to ignore it, hoping that the cleaning fairies will skip in and clean it while they’re asleep!

Whatever your attitude towards cleaning your home may be, could there be a chance that things aren’t quite as clean as you thought them to be?

  • Let’s take a look at the bathroom: Did you know that germs and bacteria from inside your toilet, can actually be spread to a distance of around 6 feet, every time you flush? The bacterial particles are microscopic in size and so not only would you not see them as they leave the bowl, but you wouldn’t see them on any of the surfaces that they might land on. One way of preventing this, is to ensure that the lid is down every time you flush. Then there’s the subject of toothbrushes… these little teeth cleaning tools are havens for germs and they can quickly build up and multiply in among the bristles. Replacing your toothbrush every 3 months should prevent you from cleaning your teeth with a brush full of potentially harmful bacteria.
  • What about your bedroom? While you lie tucked up in bed each night, thousands of minute dust mites will be crawling around, literally feeding off of any skin particles that drop from your body. While these may not necessarily be harmful, the thought of it is not pleasant, and so to help reduce the number of these little creepy crawlies, you should wash your bedding in hot water every week, and make sure that you buy new pillow cases at least every 3 years.
  • And in the kitchen…: While we may think that our kitchens are clean and hygienic, research has shown that they are often one of the least clean rooms in the home. Take chopping boards as an example, we may wash them after every use (and this should involve a good scrub under hot water, and then allowing the board to dry completely before you use it again), but if they are covered in tiny nicks and knife marks, then bacteria can build up and breed in these. You may never be able to rid your chopping board of germs in those circumstances, in which case you should replace them as soon as they become damaged.
  • And the fridge? Well this can be a real chore to keep clean, all of those compartments, drawers and shelves that food leaks onto or crumbs build up, are fiddly and often our fridges are always full, meaning that to clean the fridge properly, we’d have to remove everything. Not only that, but food stuffs left in containers for too long will quickly become breeding grounds for harmful bacteria, and anything kept stored for much more than 3 days, should really be disposed of.

If any of the above ring true with you, then why not hire a professional cleaning company to come in and deep clean the whole house? The time you will save, not to mention the knowledge that your home is germ and grime free, will make the cost of hiring someone, completely worthwhile.
