For most of us at least, cleaning is a chore that we would rather postpone, but when our homes become a real mess, we know we can’t delay the inevitable. So, when it comes to the crunch and we just can’t sit in our dirty and untidy homes any longer, are there any ways in which we can motivate ourselves to get the cleaning process started?
What about trying a new cleaning product?
This may sound a little silly, but there are all sorts of new cleaning gadgets and products appearing on the market every week, and trying one out just might alleviate the pain and suffering associated with cleaning! Some products really do make cleaning easier, while others are just fun to try, but they could be a way of motivating yourself to at least begin to tackle the cleaning jobs that need to be done.
This may also sound equally as silly, but sometimes a new product with a fragrance that you really like, can help motivate you towards getting going on the cleaning, in much the same way as a fabric softener with an evocative scent can inspire you to get on with your laundry. Imagining your entire home smelling fresh and clean, may be all it takes…
Inviting guests over:
Knowing that guests – whether it be friends and family or work colleagues – will soon be calling round for dinner or drinks and nibbles, is the perfect motivator for the lazy cleaner! None of us want the shame of somebody else seeing how unclean our home really is, and we begin to look at each room and see it how a guest might.
Decluttering:
Every home will have a certain amount of clutter in it, no matter how organised or tidy we are, and while deciding whether we want to keep it all or not can be tough, the feeling that we’ll experience once we’ve decluttered, will make the whole process worthwhile. You need not necessarily get rid of all your clutter either, simply storing it where it can easily be reached but not be seen, will also give you a deep feeling of satisfaction.
You could even hold a garage sale if you have a lot of items that you don’t want to keep, and with the proceeds that you make, you could splash out on a few new cleaning products!
Rearranging some of the rooms:
We often keep our rooms in much the same style year after year, but even something as simple as shifting a few pieces of furniture into different positions, can make us see a room in another light, and perhaps even motivate us to keep it cleaner.
Before shifting things around, be sure to clean in every nook and cranny so that your newly styled room looks fresh and clean, and you could even consider designing it in such a way that cleaning it is made easier in the future.
So, if motivation is your issue, try at least one of the above tips to help you find new reasons to clean your home, and ideally keep it that way!
