The question of how much time you should set aside for cleaning your home, will doubtless have a different answer depending on your personal circumstances and/or the condition of your home, but the minimum amount of time we should spend doing it, may be the same. Whether you live alone, have many inhabitants in your home or perhaps have several pets, you should try to aim for a clutter, and dirt-free environment. We should all spend at least a couple of hours a week cleaning our homes, as a bare minimum, and for those of us who are tidy and clean up as we go along, this may suffice. For others who are not so tidy and let laundry and dirty dishes pile up over the course of a week, this may be better than nothing, but not enough.
Does the quality of the cleaning matter more than the time spent doing it?
Usually, yes. If your method of cleaning isn’t very effective and you end up spending many hours hard at it, but with little to show for it, then you’ll simply have wasted your cleaning time, which you could have spent doing something more worthwhile.
Making sure that you dust from the top of a room to the bottom, and tidy up as you go along, are simple tips for helping to make your cleaning time as effective as possible.
Aren’t everybody’s ideas of a clean home, different?
Definitely. For some of us, a clean home is one in which you can eat your dinner hygienically from any surface, while for others it may be simply a home in which no dirt, dust or grime is visible to the naked eye. Our varying standards of cleanliness, will naturally have an effect upon how long we spend cleaning our homes.
You don’t need to obsessively clean your home for it to meet most peoples’ standards, and a lot will depend on what you feel you can comfortably live with.
Is a cleaning schedule a good idea?
Many people find that allocating certain days to certain cleaning tasks, is a great way of staying on top of things, and also gives them a sense of achievement when each task is completed. That isn’t to say that the schedule can’t be altered or updated as and when necessary, but the idea of a rota or set schedule at least reminds you of areas of your home that should be cleaned regularly.
However often you feel that your home should be cleaned, always remember that if you get behind on it or simply have other more important things to do with your spare time, you can always seek professional help. Most cleaning companies have flexible schedules and budgets, and can prepare a cleaning rota that will suit you
