The Best De-Greasing Solution:

Stove cleaning

While you may be a fan of store-bought de-greasing solutions, there is little doubt that homemade ones can be just as effective (if not more so) and are generally far better for the environment and your pocket. A good cleaning solution that is brilliant for de-greasing need not contain harsh, harmful chemicals, and here is a perfect example of one mixture that is effective and affordable:

Vinegar, liquid soap, baking soda and essential oils:

Combine the amazing sanitizing, stain removing, lightly scouring and freshly scented benefits of vinegar, liquid soap, baking soda and your favourite essential oil and you’ve got the perfect de- greaser for your kitchen and any stubbornly stained items within it. Here’s what you’ll need, along with a 32-ounce spray bottle:

  • 1 cup of distilled white vinegar
  • Natural liquid soap (chemical free)
  • 1 tablespoon of baking soda
  • Your favourite essential oil
  • A clean sponge and/or dishcloth

And here’s how to get it ready:

Prepare the bottle

Rinse the bottle with warm water

Prepare the mixture

Add vinegar into the bottle, then a drop or two of the liquid soap and baking soda. Fill the bottle with warm water and if desired, add a couple of drops of your chosen essential oil to hep mask the smell of the vinegar, which can be overpowering.

Shake the bottle

Give the mixture a vigorous shake in the bottle before you’re ready for action.

Begin cleaning!

Simply spray the mixture generously over surfaces and any areas of your kitchen (or other rooms of your home) that require de-greasing. Wipe the surfaces or items with a clean sponge and then wipe them over again with a damp dishcloth soaked in warm water.

For areas of your home that are exceptionally greasy, you may need to use another cleaning solution, as this one may not be quite tough enough. Mix baking soda with a little warm water until a paste is formed, then simply spread the paste over the affected area and leave it to dry. Once dry, remove the paste with a damp, clean sponge and wipe it down with a wet dishcloth.

Always remember to test any new cleaning solutions that you make or buy on a small surface before using it everywhere, just in case it tarnishes the area.

If you already use the services of a professional cleaning company, then you’ll know how great they are at helping to remove grease and grime from kitchens, and if you don’t have the time or the inclination to do it yourself, they are the perfect solution.
