Dust is a nuisance and can quickly build up on all surfaces in the home. While not exactly life threatening, it can aggravate allergies and when left undusted, it can make a home look unclean and most certainly unloved!
If your home is a haven for dust, you might find that you need to clean it more often, and you should think about the techniques that you use for dusting:
Use a microfibre cloth
These are by far one of the best weapons to use in the fight against dust, since they attract the dust instead of simply moving it from one place to another. When dust is shifted and floats around before settling, it can have a nasty habit of making you sneeze and aggravating any allergies that you might have, so if it can be picked up with a microfibre cloth, so much the better. These cloths are also machine washable and dry extremely quickly, minimising the need to keep replacing them when they’re dirty. They will also ensure that every surface is left streak free, and they are so effective that there is usually no need for sprays or polishes, making the whole dust collecting process environmentally friendly too.
Spray a little polish onto wooden surfaces
Some wooden surfaces will not be harmed by polishes that are designed for repelling dust, but always check the bottle before you spray. Dust is deterred from settling on some surfaces once a product has been sprayed upon them but be careful to rub it in thoroughly lest it become sticky and then you have a whole different cleaning problem on your hands!
Vacuum all surfaces and furniture
Most modern vacuum cleaners have a whole host of attachments that can be used to access difficult to reach areas and surfaces, and since the dust is sucked up and trapped in the vacuum cleaner, the risk of shifting dust around is minimized. Try to vacuum your home thoroughly at least once a week, and don’t forget to look in every nook and cranny, as you can bet there will be dust lurking everywhere!
It can also be helpful to minimise the ornaments and other dust attracting items in your home, and opening windows to allow natural air to circulate through your home is also helpful in stopping the dust from settling.
