You might have become accustomed to the aroma of pets in your home, but you can bet your bottom dollar guests or visitors won’t have!

If you’ve ever visited a home in which there is at least one dog, you’ll doubtless have picked up on the smell that often accompanies them, especially if the dog moves freely around the entire home and is allowed on the furniture. While you might not see this (or smell this!) as a problem, it definitely isn’t hygienic, and guests will definitely not appreciate it!

To help make your pet friendly home smell sweet and inviting, follow the tips below:

Make your vacuum cleaner your best friend, too

Fido might be your best buddy, but there’s room in everyone’s life for more than one good friend, and it’s about time you made you vacuum cleaner your friend, too. Regularly vacuuming carpets, rugs, furniture, mattresses and curtains can help eliminate pet hair and dander, dirt and dust, and eliminate the smell that often comes with them.

Use a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter for the best results, and pay special attention to any areas that your pet frequents.

Groom your pets often

Regular bathing and grooming can help stop hair and dander from being shed all over your home, and a sweeter smelling mutt, makes for a sweeter smelling home.

Clean your dogs’ toys, bedding and bowls

Regularly washing all items that your dog is in close contact with is a good idea, and will help your home not only smell better, but be more hygienic, too. You can use a mixture of white vinegar and mild dishwashing soap to clean your dogs’ items, and try to do it weekly to keep germs at bay, and nasty aromas, out.

Treat pet stains immediately

If your dog or cat has had an accident somewhere in your home, clean it up immediately otherwise you’ll find that the smell lingers and begins to permeate other items in the vicinity. For tough odors on carpets, rugs or upholstered furniture, try sprinkling baking soda on the area and leaving it overnight. The next day, simply vacuum the baking soda and treat the affected area with a white vinegar solution if it hasn’t dissipated completely.

Think about installing an air purifier

Purifying the air, these devices are fantastic for homes with pets and can help remove pet smells quickly and efficiently, while also eliminating airborne pet hair and dander.

To keep your pet-friendly home smelling sweet all of the time, follow the above tips, or hire a professional cleaner to pop in for an hour or two every day to keep it fresh and hygienically clean.
