Making a mess of their room is quick and easy for kids, but it’s not so quick and easy for parents to clean up after them! While hiring a cleaning service is a simple and effective way to keep a kids room spick and span at all times, some people prefer to clean their homes themselves. Fortunately, with a little planning and the following tips, you can get your precious little one’s room looking neat and tidy in next to no time:
Tip number one:
Get prepared
Cleaning is often something that we need to get ourselves into the right frame of mind to do, and it’s no different when it comes to tackling our kids bedrooms. When you know that you have an hour or two to spare (or less depending on your energy levels and the state of your child’s room!), try putting on some of your favorite music, getting changed into some comfy, breathable clothes, and focusing your mind on the task at hand.
Tip number two:
Get your supplies ready
Think about all of the cleaning supplies you’ll need for the task, and get them together so that you don’t have to go hunting around for them. Making a list can be helpful, and it should probably include the following things:
- Trash bag
- Microfiber cloths
- Glass cleaner
- Vacuum cleaner
- Fresh sheets
- Containers
Tip number three:
Pick up the trash
Get your trash bag and go around the room picking up anything that looks (and smells!) like garbage. Be sure to look under the bed as things can easily accumulate under there.
Tip number four:
Pick up clutter
Once you’ve separated the trash from other items, it’s time to put all of the toys, books and clothes back in their rightful place. If you haven’t already given your child storage boxes to put their things in, now might be a good time to do so, as these can help make sure that the bed and floor are free from clutter most of the time. Take any items that belong in other rooms, and put them back in their place, too.
Tip number five:
Clean windows and dust all surfaces
With a damp microfiber cloth, dust from the top of the room (beginning with light fixtures and ceiling fans etc.) and work your way down to the very bottom, not forgetting the baseboards.
Then, with a clean cloth and your favorite glass cleaning solution, wipe down the windows and any mirrors.
Tip number six:
Change the sheets
Strip the bed (this should ideally be done weekly) and put the linens with any other dirty laundry that you’ve picked up from the floor or furniture. Vacuum the mattress, flip it over and then vacuum the other side before putting fresh linens on and making the bed.
Tip number seven:
Tackle the floor
Vacuum the floor from corner to corner, taking care to go right under the bed and any other furniture. For any areas that aren’t carpeted, use a mop, bucket and your favorite disinfectant to clean them.
And there you have it; one clean and tidy kids room – for now, anyway! To simplify cleaning whatever the room, hire a professional cleaning service in your locality.
