Tips To Make Cleaning Up After Your Cat That Bit Easier

Cats make purrfect pets, but they can also make a lot of mess! Unfortunately, since cats can’t clean up after themselves, (or they can, but refuse to!) those dirty jobs are left to pet owners, but with the following simple tips, you can make the process a little bit easier:

  • Use cat box liners

While it’s an unpleasant job, there’s nothing worse than a smelly litter box (and your cat won’t appreciate it either), so cleaning it frequently is a necessary evil. However, with the use of cat box liners, you can make the process of cleaning up after your kitty, a little more pleasant, since it can help prevent spillages and keep the box itself, cleaner for longer.

  • Remove loose fur with a lint roller or duct tape

Lint rollers have long been found to be effective for removing less stubborn pet hair, but for some that won’t budge, you might find duct tape is the only solution. Note that due to its strength though, the tape could damage certain fabrics and textiles, so be sure to test it before using it.

  • Prevent stray litter with a box underlay

Stray kitty litter can often be found in places where it shouldn’t be, but with an underlay for the litter box, you might be able to minimize, or eliminate, this pesky problem.

  • Keep pet toys in one place

Having your cats toys kept in one place not only makes it easier for cleaning, but also reinforces the idea that toys are for playing with in just one area of the home. That way you’re not going to be tripping over them all the time, and can easily find them when you want to throw them in the machine and get them hygienically clean.

  • Wipe paws regularly

If your cat usually stays inside the home, paw cleaning might not be necessary, but for roaming cats, wiping their paws down and keeping them clean can help prevent muddy pawprints, dirt and debris from being tracked through your home.

Cats are good at keeping themselves clean, but all pets poop and walk in dirt, leaving us with plenty to clean up. While it would be great if our pets could clean up after themselves, the reality is that wiping their paws, changing their litter boxes and washing their toys, are all part and parcel of being a pet owner, and do we complain about it? Well, not often!

However, if you have a lot of pets and cleaning up after them is beginning to get out of hand, you can always ask a cleaning company to come in and help stop your home from turning into a pigsty, or smelling like one!
